If there’s one restaurant that truly lives up to its name, it’s Vatavaran. Sanskrit for “atmosphere”, the posh restaurant sets itself apart with its refined ambiance, layered concept and immersive styling. Nestled in the heart of Knightsbridge, this multi-level gem redefines what it means to take modern Indian fine-dining cuisine to “new heights.” The brainchild of culinary power duo Chef Rohit Ghai and Abhishake Sangwan, the masterminds behind Kutir and Manthan, Vatavaran blends Himalayan soul with London sophistication.
Its USP lies in this journey: multi-level dining, open-flame cooking, a bar that transitions into live music and a signature menu inspired by mountain regions of India. Whether you’re after a quiet, romantic date or a lively evening with friends, it’s a feast for all the senses. Part theatre, part fine dining, and entirely unforgettable, Vatavaran is a must-visit for anyone seeking a memorable Indian dining experience in London that goes beyond the usual curry house.
A Visual Treat

The interior design of Vatavaran isn’t your archetypical refined scheme. It is a mood board brought to life. Each of the four levels is intentionally dressed in distinct colour-themed rooms, narrating a unique story as you ascend. Start at the main restaurant downstairs, where deep blue walls and floral motifs channel the serenity of mountain streams. You enter the Blue Room where playful monkey and pomegranate leaf patterned wallpaper and skylit corners overlook the open kitchen. This is the perfect setting for those who like dinner with a view. The Orangery, located on the second level, mirrors mountain ridges, with earthy tones and warm lighting.

A further level offers the “Green Room”, a lush forest-inspired hideaway with exposed brick and timber ceilings that create an inviting rustic charm.

Finally, you reach the Red Room. This top-floor cocktail lounge features plush velvet seating, ambient lighting and abstract art, all curated to mimic the summit experience of the Himalayas. Together, these spaces create a journey, from stream and ridge to forest and summit, where every turn, texture and tint draws you deeper into Vatavaran’s visual as well as culinary experience.
Culinary Delights

Vatavaran’s cuisine fuses bold Himalayan-inspired flavours with Indian classics and modern technique. Chef Rohit Ghai, known for his Michelin-starred precision and passion for regional Indian cuisine, curates dishes that surprise as much as they satisfy. He has segmented the menu into different categories to cater to varied preferences and palates. Begin your experience with the Indori Poha Chaat, a zesty, reimagined street snack bursting with tang and crunch. Dabeli, Dal Bati and Prawns Ghati Masala are great choices too. There is a wide selection of tandoor dishes on offer too. Then for mains, dive into the Grilled Tiger Prawns with chickpea and coconut, Amritsari Chole Kulcha or Lobster Moilee.

End on a sweet note with the Pineapple – Coconut, Rose Falooda, Phirni Raspberry or Halwa Tart. If you’d like to explore beyond the bestsellers, the restaurant offers a range of set menus, from the Signature Tasting and Vegetarian Tasting to Grills Tasting and seasonal menus inspired by the changing landscapes of India. Each one is a multi-course adventure designed to showcase the diversity of fresh ingredients, textures and techniques that define modern Indian cuisine. Expect fine-dining finesse, open-flame theatrics and thoughtful inclusivity, from vegan and halal options to gluten-free indulgences.
Bar At The Top

Perched at the very top of Vatavaran is Shikhar. Meaning “peak”, this elevated bar is where the night truly hits its stride. Awash in deep jewel tones and mood lighting, it’s the perfect spot to toast a special occasion or moment. Whether you’re winding down after dinner or starting your evening on a high, the bar’s panoramic flair and smooth beats set the tone. Signature sips are as Instagrammable as they are delicious, from a butterfly-pea vodka cocktail that changes colour mid-pour from blue to pink to a tequila-passionfruit-ginger potion served in bamboo.

Or, if you like a little nostalgia in your glass, try the Gulab Jamun Rum or Jalebi Saffron Arak. Surya, a kokum infused tequila cocktail, Bharani that will remind you of masala chai and Rohini, the mango inspired concoction are must-trys too.
Staff & Service

Much like its name, the service at Vatavaran is all about atmosphere that is warm, intuitive and polished without being pretentious. The staff glide through the multi-level space with practiced ease, always ready with a smile, a suggestion or a surprise. It’s fine dining that feels refreshingly personal. If you’re lucky, Chef Rohit may personally greet you and share his recommendations.
Privacy & Exclusivity

While Vatavaran is ideal for romantic outings, it also makes for an incredible setting for private gatherings. On offer is an exclusive maisonette space suitable for up to 50 guests. Tailored menus, personalised service and a discreet option for corporate dinners, celebrations or intimate group meals.
