Qavalli In New Delhi Serves The Royal Recipes Of India With A Side Of Live Mehfils

There is a particular kind of restaurant that wants to feed you as much as transport you, and Qavalli has built an empire on the distance between those two verbs. Step past its archways in Nehru Place or Aerocity and you are not in 2026 Delhi anymore. You are somewhere closer to a Mughal court reverberating with a baithak, where chandeliers have been burning for centuries and someone, somewhere, is still playing the harmonium.

Founder Dinesh Arora says the idea took root on Thursday evenings in Old Delhi, India, watching his father at sacred qawwali gatherings. Then, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s blend of Mughal grandeur and Moroccan subtlety later gave that memory its architecture. This is a restaurant built like a film set that decided to also serve dinner. And speaking of its cuisine, rather than chasing culinary trends, Qavalli revives India’s regal dining traditions with an immersive experience that is equal parts royal durbar, intimate mehfil and modern fine-dining destination.

For Delhi’s discerning diners, Qavalli has established itself as one of the most compelling addresses for refined North Indian, Awadhi and Mughlai cuisine. The restaurant and its many addresses celebrate India’s culinary inheritance through forgotten recipes, regional specialities, khansama techniques and a philosophy rooted in mehmaan-nawazi (the timeless art of hospitality). What makes Qavalli stand out in a country with no shortage of “regal” Indian dining concepts is that it commits to the bit.

Four Addresses, One Regal Vision

Qavalli spans across New Delhi, Bhopal and Indore. It two outposts in Delhi are at perched in most sought-after neighbourhoods and offer a distinct interpretation of the same vision. The original outlet is at Worldmark, Aerocity and its younger sibling at Epicuria, Nehru Place. While both restaurants embrace the same culinary philosophy and signature musical evenings, each has been designed to respond to its surroundings, making them destinations in their own right rather than replicas of one another.

Step inside either outpost and the first impression is theatrical. The interiors borrow from Mughal grandeur, Rajasthani opulence, Moroccan geometry and old-world Indo-Islamic architecture to create spaces. At Aerocity, dramatic crimson drapes frame ornate arches while auburn upholstery, gilded detailing and crystal chandeliers lend the room a stately glow.

The Nehru Place restaurant introduces hand-painted floral ceilings, intricate wall murals, carved marble fountains, intimate alcoves and elegant outdoor seating, creating a softer, more residential interpretation of the same aesthetic. Rich textiles, patterned flooring, handcrafted furniture and jewel-toned upholstery weave together an atmosphere that is luxurious yet inviting.

A Royal Feast

The food draws from royal kitchens and old khansama playbooks, leaning into slow-cooked Mughlai technique, tandoor work, and biryanis built over hours. Spices are blended in-house and produce sourced with the kind of intent that shows up on the plate, not just the menu copy. Qavalli runs parallel menus across outlets. Diners can choose between an extensive à la carte selection, leisurely lunches, indulgent dinners and tasting experiences.

Dedicated vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and halal-friendly options ensure there’s something for everyone. Rather than treating dietary preferences as afterthoughts, Qavalli builds inclusivity into the dining experience without compromising authenticity. The menu promises to appeal to culinary purists seeking classic flavours as it does to modern diners looking for flexibility and refinement.

The Standout Plates

Signature dishes are a tour through India’s culinary archives. Among the appetisers, the melt-in-the-mouth Nawabs Galawat Kebab, smoky Dhungaari Salmon Boti and elegant Dahi Gilafi Kebab are standout introductions. Vegetarians should not miss Kamal Bahaar Nadru Kofta or Dhingri ki Gilawat. Mains continue the storytelling with the velvety Daal-e-Khaas, Nalli Nihari, rare Rampuri Taar Korma, Gucchi Malai Matar and regional favourite Bijnori Urad Gosht.

Desserts, from fragrant Saffron Kewra Phirnee and creamy Maharaja Kulfi to the decadent Shahi Mewa Tukda, promise the sweetest ending.

Liquid Legacy

The bar deserves its own applause. Positioned as an Indian botanical cocktail programme, it draws from indigenous ingredients, house-made tinctures, cordials and botanical infusions. The playful Mallika Jaan balances tangy, fruit-forward flavours.

The Banarsi captures the unmistakable aroma of paan through smoky, aromatic notes. For something extravagant, Tajdaar combines Macallan 12-Year-Old whisky with sandalwood, lotus bitters and edible 24-carat gold, embodying the restaurant’s royal spirit in liquid form.

The Soul

The entertainment at Qavalli is not just a pleasant accompaniment, but the soul of the experience. On select evenings, the restaurant transforms into a contemporary mehfil with its signature Qavalli Nights, where live Sufi, qawwali, classical and fusion performances fill the room. Completing the journey is the service that is impeccable and paced to encourage long conversations. It is this seamless blend of soulful music, regal hospitality and exceptional cuisine that elevates Qavalli from a fine-dining restaurant to a cultural experience.
