Move over, peach fuzz! There’s a new It colour in town. Say hello to Mocha Mousse, Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2025. Like every year, the experts at Pantone Color Institute have selected a shade that is likely to dominate the ensuing 12 months. Otherwise known as Pantone 17-1230, Mocha Mousse is a brown-grey hue that’s evocative of chocolate mousse and latte coffee. The versatile shade aims to bring a sense of comfort, intimacy, and indulgence.
According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, “Sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embrace the aspirational and luxe.” The elevated neutral shade is also suited to weddings. It can be worked across aesthetics and themes, from lavish to rustic. It can also be combined with a multitude of palettes, from monochromatic earthy shades to mixtures of soft pastels, or even vibrant or jewels tones.
Looking to incorporate Mocha Mousse into your celebration? Read on for the best ways to infuse it to your wedding.
Set the tone with a Mocha Mousse invitation
Your wedding invitations will be the very first element related to your big day. So, what better way to introduce your upcoming colour palette than your stationery? And we don’t mean drench your invite in browns, but let it be the silver lining with subtle touches. Since it’s brimming with sophistication, it’s perfect as an envelope for your wedding. Or let the typography be in the shade. Want to go all out with a hamper? Consider a wooden box to stow the invites along with sweet treats. On my radar is Sobhita Dhulipala and Naga Chaitanya’s wedding invitation by Radhika Pittie Studio, featuring traditional temple elements in Mocha Mousse.
Deck up your décor in Mocha Mousse
The cosy colour is sure to give way to several stunning ideas to set you’re the scene of your special day. Rely on Mocha Mousse to drench the décor of your wedding ceremony or inject small touches to the setting. Elevate your wedding decor with cascading silk drapes in a dreamy mocha mousse hue, creating a romantic ambience, while impeccably styled table settings act as the perfect cherry on top of your celebration.
If you don’t want it to take the centre stage yet become a focal point, let this beautiful setup by 1SW Events become your benchmark. We love the Mocha Mousse wooden mandap that’s overflowing with pastel blooms and accented with prolific pampas grass.
Pick an refined outfit
Sure, you may not have considered walking down the aisle in a brown-grey bridal outfit, but a lehenga or a sari reminiscent of this lush shade will make an elegant choice for a glamorous pre- or post-wedding celebration, or the main ceremony for that matter. We love this architecture inspired Tarun Tahiliani bridal lehenga, featuring an embroidered skirt accentuated with sequin, kundan and metallic gota embroidery for a destination wedding. For brides who crave a high-octane look, Sabyasachi’s gorgeous gown won’t disappoint. A pre-draped sari, like this gorgeous one by Monga’s, is a winner for a cocktail night. Comfortable and chic, it’s apt to dance the night away in.
Amp it up with accessories and jewellery
Every bride needs a neutral-hued accessory in her trousseau. And the Mocha Mousse shade makes for a rich and oh-so-versatile palette for all your elevated essentials. You can go for a copper-y clutch with your lehenga, juttis with your outfit or stilettoes with your sari. For brides who want to splurge, go for champagne coloured diamonds.
…And makeup
Your big day deserves an epic makeup look to match. A Mocha Mousse swipe of an eyeshadow will look mesmerising for that soft glam look. A blown-out brown smoky eye is guaranteed to accentuate olive skin, without looking too goth that a classic black can tend to appear sometimes. A wash of brown with touches of gold is another timeless classic. Don’t even be afraid to dip into nude browns for your lip. Artist Ambreen makes a case for the palette for the main ceremony with this look, featuring glossy lids and a caramel lip. We are also swooning over this monochromatic look by makeup artist Kashni M Suri, using soft mocha tones on the lips and as a gloss.
Dress your table
Of course, I would be remiss not to mention a decadent Mocha Mousse tablescape. This is where your guests get up close and personal with your wedding décor, and, honestly, it’s where they’ll spend the most time during your celebrations. Whether you go for a rustic vibe or unapologetic glamour. The choices are endless. For lovers of dreamlike woodland aesthetic, this can translate as clay charger plates and candles in the shade, peppered with contrasting peach blooms. Or picture an extravagant setup where the elements feel as indulgent as the shade itself. Think tall pampas grass installations swaying in the breeze complemented with white orchids and candles, while metallic crockery and cutlery framing the setting.
Consider a couture chocolate cake
Why should your wedding cake be vanilla? A Mocha Mousse cake seems like a no-brainer. From colour to flavour, you can go all out with your wedding cake, quite literally. There are a plethora of ways when it comes to decoration too. You can go for classic with fresh flowers. A gilded creation with gold leaf work or hand-painted details. Then, there are modern naked cakes or options with truffles.
Select a statement signage
If décor statement seems like a big commitment, go for a baby step with a well-designed signage at the venue. A quirky signage will do more than just convey information to your wedding party—it will add an aspect of humour, sentiment or photo-op to them. A wooden signage for the entrance, a rustic one for the bar with signature cocktails, or an earthy pick for run-of-day schedule displayed as guests arrive. With elegant touches like custom calligraphy and wordings, it’s easy to keep the look elevated for a more formal event, too.
